Attendance Allowance mandatory reconsideration
If you disagree with a decision about your Attendance Allowance, mandatory reconsideration is the first step in challenging it. This page explains how it works.
We explain the system. We do not advise on individual cases.
Asking for a decision to be looked at again
If you disagree with an Attendance Allowance decision, the first step is to ask the DWP to reconsider it — a mandatory reconsideration. This is usually needed before you can appeal.
The time limit
You normally need to ask within one month of the date on the decision letter. Late requests may be accepted with a good reason. Check the deadline on your letter.
What to include
Explain which parts of the decision you disagree with and why, and add any further evidence about the help and supervision you need. The DWP sends a mandatory reconsideration notice with the result.
