Evidence overview
This page explains what evidence means on this website and how it may help describe needs.
We explain the system. We do not advise on individual cases.
What evidence is for
Evidence may help explain how a disability or health condition affects daily living, mobility, care, supervision, behaviour, school support or night needs.
Evidence is not a guarantee
Evidence does not guarantee an award, rate, points score, mandatory reconsideration result or appeal outcome. DWP or a tribunal decides using the rules and the information available.
Types of evidence
- Medical evidence
- School and SEN evidence
- Diary evidence
- Evidence from family, carers or support workers
Do not upload documents here
This website does not collect medical records, benefit letters, appeal papers or personal information.
Start with these two guides
If you are not sure where to begin, two pages pull the principles together:
- How to describe your difficulties — the most useful starting point.
- Evidence checklist — a simple list of evidence that can help.
