DLA for children: how to appeal
If you disagree with a DLA decision for your child, you can challenge it through mandatory reconsideration and then appeal to a tribunal. This page explains the process.
We explain the system. We do not advise on individual cases.
Appealing a DLA decision
If you disagree with a DLA decision and a mandatory reconsideration has not changed it, you can appeal to an independent tribunal (HM Courts & Tribunals Service). The tribunal looks at the decision afresh.
The time limit
You normally have one month from the date on the mandatory reconsideration notice to appeal. Always check the exact deadline on your notice and on GOV.UK.
How it works
You submit the appeal explaining why you disagree, and can choose a paper or oral hearing. Many parents bring a supporter or representative. This website explains the process in general and cannot prepare or check an individual appeal.
