I have a review, renewal or change of circumstances

If your benefit is being reviewed, your award is due for renewal, or your circumstances have changed, this page will point you to the right information.

We explain the system. We do not advise on individual cases.

PIP review

PIP awards are made for a fixed period and are reviewed before they expire. If you have received a review questionnaire from the DWP, you need to complete and return it by the deadline. Treat the review like a new claim — describe how your condition affects you now, including any changes since the original award.

See our PIP reviews and changes page for more detail.

DLA for children renewal

DLA for children awards also expire and must be renewed. If the DWP has written to you about a renewal, you will need to complete a new claim form describing your child’s current needs. See our DLA renewals page for guidance.

Change of circumstances

You must tell the DWP if your circumstances change in a way that could affect your benefit. This might include your condition getting significantly better or worse, going into hospital for an extended period, or moving into a care home.

Failing to report a relevant change can result in an overpayment that the DWP asks to be repaid. When in doubt, report the change — you can always ask the DWP if it is relevant.

If your condition has worsened

If your condition has got significantly worse since your award was made, you may be able to ask the DWP to look at your award again before the next review date. This could result in a higher award — but be aware that any review can also confirm the current award or reduce it.

Attendance Allowance reviews

Attendance Allowance can be reviewed at any time. If your care needs have increased, you may be able to ask for a review to see whether you qualify for the higher rate. See our Attendance Allowance reviews page for more detail.
