Editorial standards

How we write, check and keep this information accurate and accessible.

We explain the system. We do not advise on individual cases.

Plain English

We write in plain English for a wide audience, including disabled people, carers, families and older readers. We keep sentences short and explain technical terms and acronyms the first time they appear.

Information, not advice

Everything on this website is general information about how the benefit system works. We do not give legal, benefits or medical advice, and we do not advise on individual cases. This boundary appears on every page.

Checked against official sources

We base our explanations on the official rules published on GOV.UK. Where figures such as benefit rates are mentioned, we note that amounts usually change each April and link to the official source for the current figure.

Independent and free

This website is independent of GOV.UK, DWP, HMCTS and any government department. It is free, carries no advertising, and is not a claims service.

Accessibility

We aim to make this website usable for everyone, including people using screen readers or keyboard navigation, and people who experience brain fog, pain or fatigue. See our accessibility statement for details.

Editorial independence

Our information is not influenced by adverts, sponsors, affiliate links, or commercial relationships. See our advertising disclosure.
